US-based technology giant Apple has announced that it has started to manufacture iPhone 13 near the city of Chennai, India. The move was estimated to be one of the company's steps to diversify its supply chain by moving it out of China. Apple first started production in India with the iPhone SE in 2017. The technology giant also moved some of the production operations of the iPhone 12 to India last year.

According to Aksam.com.tr's report from Reuters; Foxconn, one of Apple's largest suppliers, currently manufactures the iPhone 13 in one of its facilities in Tamil Nadu, in southern India. The company also plans to start iPad production in India.

According to the data of 2021; China is home to 95.3 percent of Apple's worldwide manufacturing operations. In India, on the other hand, this rate is only 3.1 percent. Market analysis firm Counterpoint Research estimates that India's share of manufacturing operations could rise to between 5 percent and 7 percent by 2022.
